Burning Flame Inferno Incident

06/03/2024 - I finally have some footage, ten minutes worth, although I assume most footage would be useless because of being one recording like behind the scenes. I need to check which scenes are useless to keep, if the audio is good or needs some dubbing, and potential reshoots, but now I can start editing as I have most and possibly all my shots completed.

I tried to experiment with the colour gradient, to find one that looks similar to Snyder Cut yet have my own uniqueness to it still, as one above is too bright and warm like apocalyptic flashback that seem to have been burning by the sun, it might match with the end sequence of Snyder Cut but not the overall film, as there is a lot yellow in this to be distracting and not realistic colour.

Seems to be flashy in footage, and doesn't really suit the colour gradient of Snyder Cut, and seem to be in style of low budget, but it is a improvement and something I can stick with until better.

This is more realistic, immersive, and more able to see, like any other movie with their lacking of colour gradient, as I got a hint of colour into it to show some more green and sun while not ruining people's skin in visuals.

I did some cutting, transitions, and sped up some scenes to make it look better, but thanks to this I realize that my video is too blurry and shaky, I probably need to do some reshoots, but due to my actors schedules I rarely do so, so I have to wait for certain time to reshoot and getting the dubs. As from my first experience, the tripod didn't work because the camera didn't fit, so I had to do it handheld, but just in case the reshoots doesn't do, I will continue editing this footage as a back-up and to keep myself busy while patiently waiting for the opportunity to reshoot.

Because I think it's inefficient to do two same effects on top of each other, I made the particles effect into fire for villain, and lightning effect for hero to demonstrate different powers for different people to tell who's who other than appearance.

I have finally reshot some scenes, and fixed the focus and stability, but I have to do more in mean time, and have to redub again since I lost all my audio from the dubbing part.

These are reshoot frames that I started with colour gradient

I got a new effect that I could use as a dramatic style for symbolism or colour theory to represent something. As I would possibly use this once for few seconds to not overdo it.

The Ratio

I now got a ratio problem, and this is settings that I have to do to make it look similar without having blacks bars on the side or some of footage randomly blocked off. I had to go on sequence settings to make a certain ratio exactly from one of footages so it can fit in perfectly, while had to alter the other, which I had to rescale to I think is enough without having anything blocked off.

The Effect Continuation Issue

Screenshot 2024-04-18 151342.png

I have encountered a problem where no matter what I set out the effects setting to be, it still continues in the next shot/frame, as I theorize that the settings I set out currently only affects what happens later, as the settings before hasn't played out yet, as I tried moving the previous effects from here

Screenshot 2024-04-18 151917.png

As it seemed like it affected the current frame I was, as it seemed the settings I did for that frame does nothing but the previous effects' settings from previous frames can affect that current frame.

So I either have to change the effect settings from previous frames to change the current frame effect settings, which will take a lot of work, or I could change the opacity in the transform area

Screenshot 2024-04-18 152427.png

There is still problems, as the only way I can use this as solution is ending effects at the end of scene or when intended to disappear at the time, but if I'm working on during the scenes, then I can't do anything about it if the effect is not changing when I want it to, as it could be unpredictable if it changes or not at a later time or currently. So I have no way to fix this midway through a scene, as it seems I have to change effects of previous scenes, which doesn't seem efficient, as it takes alot of time and effort, and I don't know how much it will change with that frame or later frame, as the variable uses of this method isn't really useful.

I was always intending for my protagonist to have his own effects specific to his powers, so it will look unique and interacting with two effects together, as I can replace some of it with lightning to calm down the effects situation. The only problem I see with this is that it will look awkward at times as it suddenly replaced with lightning for some reason.

So how it works, is I use the clocked frames effect where each frame can be affected differently and between other frames, therefore it's not one continuous permanent effect, giving variety and a flow of actual movement. As I use each frame to correctly fix position of the effect and move it so it can act natural, otherwise it would be stuck in the same place for the entire movie. This includes size, shape, and colour, that it can constantly shift and bend, giving the right appearance for the right frame. This goes for both lightning effect and particle effect, as lightning effect is much easier to deal with, since it has more simple and understandable functions, as complexity can help me choose how interesting the lightning looks from a scale between 1 and 10, as 1 can look like a straight up beam to 10 where it's like a net with claws or tentacles stretching out and spreading. While with Particle effects, it is so complicated and hard to understand what is going to happen, as I said before, the effect sometimes stays when it's not suppose to, otherwise it would've been easier to handle, but I guess one of examples to show why it would be good as well, would be particle type, as it helps me choose what shape it can be, giving a nice sense of visual, having already a 3d like model in it improves the effect by a margin.

I also used lens flare, to give off a hint of brightness, to show that the attacks suppose to be blinding. And I hope I achieved that by adding the lens flare to do so. As I placed the lens flare within the other effects as well, so it can't be too distracting and think it's part of the other effect then.

Screenshot 2024-05-01 093317.png

As you can see here, the combination of glowness I added from lightning effects combined with lens flare being in the center of it, gives off such a look, that it's like looking in the middle of the sun. As this could be a similar effect to a Dalek's eye.

The audio, I found some of effects in freesound.org, however the songs are from youtube, I checked that they were copyright free. I tried looking for lightning and fire sounds to match the effects as to what they are. I used sounds like fire, lightning, and energy, to be most accurate as possible. I had to cut it down because of how short my visual effects are compared to sounds, so I basically cut it and move it until the next effect so I wouldn't waste sound, and that they can sound different each time as if they continuing from last time. I also had to increase or decrease volume or speed/duration depending on how other sounds played out, because some dialogue was too quiet or not long enough for the scene, so I made it suitable to hear.
